COURSE OUTCOMES
By the end of the day, learners will:
- Understand the context of the Food Labelling regulations and which Government department is responsible for which foods
- Know the minimum information required on food labels, presentation, letter heights and mandatory warnings.
- Be aware of the requirements for ingredient order and naming, seasonal and compound ingredients, QUID, allergen declarations, and how to identify and declare additives.
- Have an overview of requirements for declaring nutritional information on food labels, for voluntary nutritional information and when claims are made.
- Will be able to identify claims and the difference between marketing claims, nutrient content claims and health claims, as well as an overview of negative claims, misleading descriptions and regulated terms.
- Know the exemptions to the food labelling regulation and requirements for non-prepackaged food items, catering establishments, restaurants and retailers.
- Be aware of the main changes between R.146 and the draft R3337 labelling regulation.
- A certificate of attendance is issued.
